Our Story

The Family Food Bank was set up in 2012 following the sudden closure of the Thamesteel Mill in Sheerness, this led to around 400 employees facing redundancy and financial difficulty.
With the help and support of the local community we were able to launch and establish the Family Food Bank at Seashells in Sheerness. Since then we have expanded our service to other districts in the county. We now work in the following districts across Kent:

• Ashford 
• Maidstone
  
• Swale
• Thanet

Through the support of the community and our relationship with FareShare Kent we can produce a Family Food Box for about £5. This will feed a family of four, two meals a day for five days.

The Family Food Bank is part of Children & Families Ltd (registered charity number 1115459). Children and Families provide a number of child and family related services in Kent, including childcare and children's centre services. The Family Food Bank is one of the services that we provide to help support families and reduce the impact of child poverty.
