Our Story
The Family Food Bank was set up in 2012 following the sudden closure of the Thamesteel Mill in Sheerness, this led to around 400 employees facing redundancy and financial difficulty.
With the help and support of the local community we were able to launch and establish the Family Food Bank at Seashells in Sheerness.
Since then we have expanded our service to cover all districts across Kent & Medway.

Through the support of the community and our relationship with FareShare Kent we can produce a Family Food Box that will feed a family of four, two meals a day for five days.

How we can help
If you are facing financial hardship or had a change in personal circumstance, then we are here to help you.
Our service only operates across Kent & Medway.
If you live outside this area, then we are unable to help you, and would suggest you use a search engine to find a food bank in your area.
In the first instance, we also suggest everyone applies to the Kent Support and Assistance Service (KSAS) as they may be able to offer further assistance.

We can supply short term food aid for up to a week. Families are required to collect a voucher from a professional partner or distribution centre and exchange this for a food box.
In exceptional circumstances we can issue further boxes and support you for longer periods. In order to make these arrangements please get in touch.

A Standard Food Box
Our standard food box aims to support a family of 4 for 5 days, each box weighs around 12kg, so please bear this in mind when collecting your food box. Other boxes are available upon request:

The Family Food Bank is part of Children & Families (registered charity number 1115459). Children and Families provide a number of child and family related services in Kent, including childcare and children's centre services. The Family Food Bank is one of the services that we provide to help support families and reduce the impact of child poverty.
